Ways to Protect Your Skin Against the Sun

Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and it plays a vital role in protecting your body from external elements. However, the skin is also vulnerable to damage from various factors, including the sun's harmful rays, pollution, and poor lifestyle habits. To keep your skin healthy, supple, and glowing, it is essential to adopt good skin care practices that can protect it from damage. Here are some easy yet effective ways you can protect your skin and maintain a youthful appearance for years to come.

Wear sunscreen – Wear sunscreen all year round to protect against harmful UV rays. Sun damage is one of the primary causes of premature aging, including wrinkles, fine lines and age spots. The regular use of sunscreen can help prevent these age-related skin issues and keeps your skin looking young and healthy.

Wear protective clothing – Choose clothes that are tightly woven, the tighter the weave, the less likely UV rays can penetrate through the clothing. Look for UPF clothing: Some clothing is specifically designed to provide sun protection, with a UPF rating on the label. UPF stands for “ultraviolet protection factor” and ranges from 15 to 50+

Keep skin hydrated – Drinking plenty of water helps maintain the elasticity and suppleness of the skin and flushes out toxins from the body. Also, using a fragrance-free moisturize daily will help keep your skin hydrated.

Avoid the sun during the peak hours - The suns peak hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., this is when UV radiation is the strongest. During these times, the sun is at its highest point in the sky and its rays are the strongest. It's best to stay indoors during these hours or seek shelter in a shaded area if you need to be outside.

Get regular skin exams - Schedule regular check-ups with a dermatologist to monitor any changes in your skin and identify any potential problems early.
