Westmoreland / Frick Hospital Foundation

Welcome to the Westmoreland/Frick Foundation

The Westmoreland/Frick Hospital Foundation raises funds for the primary purpose of furthering the mission of Excela Health – to improve the health and well-being of every life we touch. Our primary activities are to support our hospitals and other services through funding via any number of initiatives. We distribute monies to enhance services, acquire new equipment and technology, and aid in vital programs for the communities we serve. To date, our foundation has distributed more than $10 million to make capital and technology improvements at Frick and Westmoreland Hospitals.

Monies are raised through special events as well as through major gifts, bequests, donations and other, similar means so that quality health care continues. But the need for continued support is constant.

New equipment for the Family Additions Maternity Center

Excela Foundation

Over the last three years, the Foundation has raised over $269,000 for the purchase of new rockers for the Special Care Nursery, Panda newborn warming systems, bassinets, pulse oximeters, jaundice meters, and a Sim Baby for the neonatal resuscitation program, among others. We are especially pleased to have purchased the new rockers with funds provided in part by the Lil Joe's Society of Support. The rockers are used by our volunteer "cuddlers" who rock drug addicted infants. The rhythmic rocking motion helps to soothe these babies struggling through withdrawal from opioids and other drugs. Along with premature infants and newborns requiring special care, babies born with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome recuperate in the Special Care Nursery before discharge from the hospital. Addition of Dynavision for the Concussion Management Program

A leading visual motor and neuro-cognitive rehabilitation and sports training device, the Dynavision is a diagnostic tool that aids in determining when it is safe for young athletes to return to play. Within the pediatric population this technology allows for improvement in cognitive processing abilities, balance and functional mobility.

Renovation of the Westmoreland Hospital Intensive Care Unit

A major renovation project bringing state-of-the-art care for a safer, high quality patient experience for those with the most severe illnesses and injuries. The 18-month project was based on national best practices for critical care to promote healing, comfort patient families and support clinicians providing care to patients who are most vulnerable.

New 3D Mammography equipment for Excela Square at Norwin

Clinical research has shown that 3D mammography significantly improves the visualization of cancers, particularly in women with dense breast tissue. All screening mammograms at Excela Health are performed with 3D technology.

Healing Garden and Hospice Room furniture at Frick Hospital

The Healing Garden is an outdoor space offering another source of healing for our patients as well as a restorative spot for the hospital's caregivers. Studies have shown that just a few minutes in a natural setting can improve blood pressure, respiration rate, brain activity and mood. The Hospice Room provides a comforting environment for those facing end of life and their loved ones.
