The Golden Hour: Act in Time … Act Fast To Save a Life!

The Golden Hour message is simple: If someone is experiencing symptoms of a heart attack or stroke, CALL 9-1-1 and get to a hospital within one hour. Acting in time – within the first Golden Hour after symptoms begin – greatly reduces the risk of damage to the heart or brain and greatly improves the chance of recovery.

Excela Health actively promotes this important health message through a variety of methods including school-based programs and a Speaker’s Bureau, among others. The desired result is to help individuals …

  • Understand more about cardiovascular disease / stroke and prevention
  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack or stroke
  • Know what to do in the event of a heart attack or stroke

The Golden Hour in Schools

Through its unique Golden Hour Student Scholarship program, senior high school students in area school districts are educated about the Golden Hour message, and, in turn, students learn how to educate family and friends.

Students participate in a project portion of the program.  At the school level, projects are judged and two winners from each school receive $100.  The program culminates with the annual Excela Health Student Scholarship Gala, and winning projects from all participating schools then compete for two grand prizes - scholarships of $1,000.

The Golden Hour in the Community

Excela Health offers a Golden Hour Speaker’s Bureau FREE of charge presented by trained staff and volunteers.  A team of trained professionals stands ready to make presentations to area businesses, church groups and service organizations. To schedule a Golden Hour presentation, call 724-689-0205.
