Volunteer at Excela Health

When you volunteer at Excela Health, you become part of a unique group of individuals motivated by various reasons but together, working toward one goal ― improving the health and well-being of every life touched. And the opportunities to volunteer are as varied as the people seeking to help. From preparing mailings, packaging medical charts, making the initial connection with visitors at the front desk, staffing the surgical waiting areas, or any other of the roles available, you contribute toward making Excela Health a caring place for those who enter our doors.

Our age requirement for volunteering is 16 years old and above. So, if you have a particular skill, the ability to give back, a passion for caring, and enjoy being part of a team, you can become an Excela Health volunteer.

Hospice Volunteers

Hospice-trained volunteers serve as part of a team giving compassionate care to those with a terminal illness and their families. They provide a support system for caregivers by visiting patients or helping them and family members with errands. Hospice volunteers also provide direct and indirect patient care including respite and social visits, clerical duties and help with special projects.

To learn more about hospice volunteering, call our Volunteer Coordinator, 724-689-1800.

Pet Therapy Volunteers

Our team of volunteers at Excela Health includes a few furry friends as well. Pet therapy animals are used to provide comfort and affection to patients, staff and visitors at various locations throughout the system. Their owners, who accompany their animals on visits, must meet the same requirements as any Excela volunteer.

Each animal:

  • Must be at least one-year-old
  • May be of any breed or mixed breed
  • Must be tested and registered through one of the recognized national or regional therapy animal organizations
  • Must be up-to-date on certain health requirements
  • Must not be fed a raw diet
  • For additional information, review our pet therapy FAQ document.
