Sports Medicine at Excela Health

To get you back in the game, the Excela Health Orthopedics group offers a sports medicine program along with a concussion clinic. Offering exceptional care to both athletes and fans alike, Excela Health Orthopedics provides the medical expertise and personal care required through board certified orthopedic specialists, a primary care/sports medicine physician, physician assistants, and certified athletic trainers.

Athletic trainers work with student athletes at Seton Hill University, Saint Vincent College and Westmoreland County Community College in addition to those at Yough, Penn Trafford and Jeannette Senior High Schools.

Concussion Clinic

Excela Health Orthopedics also offers a Concussion Clinic to protect athletes from complications of improperly treated head or brain injury.  Through the clinic, the "Immediate Post-concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing" (IMPACT) system, a sophisticated tool that helps to evaluate recovery following a concussion, is used.  IMPACT also serves as a means of managing trauma-induced alteration of mental status and may help reduce the occurrence of cognitive and psychological changes that can result from cumulative brain injury

The clinic also offers a prevention program so the signs and symptoms of concussion can be recognized more readily and professional care sought more quickly.
