The new $1.5 million robot-assisted surgical system at Excela
Health is the most advanced technology available in all of western
Pennsylvania, allowing Excela surgeons to perform the most complicated and
difficult procedures. The system is often used in prostate surgery, gynecologic
surgery (including hysterectomy and uterine fibroids), cancer surgery and
several general surgery procedures.
Robot-assisted surgery at Excela has many benefits for patients: Much less pain
- Less blood loss
- Less risk of infection
- Smaller incision (dime-sized)
- Shorter hospital stay, closer to home
- Faster recovery
- Quicker return to normal activities
For surgeons, robot-assisted surgery means:
- Greater accuracy
- Increased range of motion
- Better dexterity
- Enhanced visualization
- Better access to difficult surgical sites
The system can’t be programmed or act independently. The surgeon controls every movement.
