Multidimensional Care
The complex nature of cancer demands a multidimensional approach. At the Arnold Palmer Pavilion, care is designed for the whole person. Physical, emotional and social issues are addressed with acute care/intervention, education, counseling, nutrition guidance, meditation and relaxation training (through Excela Health’s The Well Being Center), pain management, pastoral care and even non-medical needs such as patient transportation to and from the site for outpatient treatments.
The Latest in Cancer Treatment and Research
Patients are provided with quick access to promising cancer therapies through the latest cancer drug trials. As researchers at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center continue to make significant strides in cancer treatment and research, patients treated at the Arnold Palmer Pavilion will benefit directly from their discoveries.
Radiation Therapy
When appropriate, many cancers are treated with radiation therapy. Patients who are candidates for this type of treatment are referred to Mountain View Medical Park for intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). This technology gives radiation oncologists the ability to better target treatment by “sculpting” the contours of the irregularly shaped tumor with an intense dose of radiation. This technique minimizes radiation damage to normal tissue, resulting in far fewer side effects for the patient.
