About the Lap Band Option for Weight Loss

We offer laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery and the LAP-BAND® as bariatric surgery options.  The patient and surgeon work together to determine the most appropriate method for the patient’s success based on a variety of factors including clinical assessment, insurance coverage and patient preference.

The LAP-BAND® procedure is a minimally invasive, FDA-approved device that does not involve surgical cutting of the stomach or intestines, rather, it helps achieve weight loss by limiting the food intake, reducing appetite and slowing digestion.  The system is adjustable, does not permanently alter the anatomy, and is fully reversible.  It has the lowest operative complication rate making it an attractive option for the qualified bariatric surgical candidate.

Weight loss occurs at a slower rate than the gastric bypass procedures, but with similar resolution of co-morbid conditions.  An increasing number of insurance carriers are covering the LAP-BAND® procedure.
