| Founded in 1974, the Excela Health Latrobe Family Medicine Residency Program is one of the most experienced unopposed family medicine residencies in Pennsylvania. Be it on rounds, in the office, or playing volleyball at nearby Legion Keener Park our residents and faculty form a close-knit family who interact well together. Many of our residents choose to live in on-site housing which helps build and maintain the atmosphere of the residency as a community.
One of the things that sets us apart from most other programs is our three office system. The Latrobe, Norvelt, and Saltsburg Family Medicine practices are staffed with two residents from each class (six total) and at least three family medicine faculty. Each office team takes care of their patients together both in the hospital and ambulatory settings. This helps to ensure excellent continuity of care, a very important tenet of family medicine. |

The community family medicine practices are “real offices” where resident and attending physicians work side by side as colleagues in caring for the same patients. Residents benefit by the role-modeling of faculty as well as practicing from day one in a real office environment as opposed to a “resident clinic.”
The breadth of exposure and opportunity for residents to individualize their education is a definite strength of our program. Our graduates have gone on to become “traditional” family doctors, urgent care doctors, hospitalists and physicians who practice “outpatient only.” Some of our recent graduates have gone on to do fellowships in geriatrics, sports medicine and obstetrics.
We have the track record. We have the vision. All we need is you. |
