The Golden Hour
Act in Time … To Save a Life

The Golden Hour message is simple: If someone is experiencing symptoms of a heart attack or stroke, get to a hospital within 60 minutes. Acting within time – within the first “Golden Hour” after symptoms begin – greatly reduces the risk of damage from heart attack or stroke and greatly improves the chance of recovery.

Excela Health actively promotes this important health message through a variety of methods including school-based programs and a Speaker’s Bureau, among others. The desired result is to help individuals …
  •  Understand more about cardiovascular disease and prevention
  •  Recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack or stroke
  •  Know what to do in the event of a heart attack or stroke

Golden Hour in High Schools

Through its unique Golden Hour Heart scholarship program, junior and senior high school students in area school districts are educated about the Golden Hour message, and, in turn, students learn how to educate family and friends.

Students participate in a five-month-long project, culminating with the Heart Fair, where two student projects at each school are awarded $100 prizes. Winning student projects from all participating schools then compete for two $1,000 higher education scholarships.

This program is sponsored in part by the Highmark Foundation.
