The Excela Health Latrobe Hospital Family Medicine Residency has been training osteopathic family physicians for decades. In January 2005, we received formal accreditation by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) for our internship and in November 2006 for our residency.
Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) is taught longitudinally using a series of lectures, workshops, outside speakers and journal clubs. Additionally, our osteopathic unit directors teach in the office setting at our satellite offices. An advantage of our dually accredited (AOA and ACGME) program is the opportunity for the referral of patients for OMT by our allopathic residents and faculty.
Our goal is to ensure competence in the use of OMT for common outpatient problems including but not limited to: Low back pain, thoracic and cervical strains, headache and hip pain.
