About Volunteer Fund-Raising Groups at Excela Health

Shortly after the founding of Frick, Latrobe and Westmoreland Hospitals, groups of forward-thinking women came together to aid in the mission of those hospitals, contributing their time, talents and labor to raise needed funds. Today, each has accomplished much in terms of fund-raising, volunteerism and management of their hospitals' gift shops. We invite you to consider joining one of these groups in support of our Excela Health hospitals and for the rewards you can reap.

Latrobe Area Hospital Aid Society

Throughout its long history of support to Latrobe Hospital, the Aid Society can boast a cumulative donation of more than $1.7 million to the hospital. From bake sales to the "Lights of Love," book, jewelry and uniform sales to its health-related initiatives, such as the Children's Health Fair, the Aid Society continues to grow for the good of Excela Health Latrobe Hospital.

The Aid Society also works in conjunction with the hospital's gift and coffee shop, "The Little Shop," which is staffed by over 170 volunteers. Through its efforts, monies have helped with equipment purchases, community education, building projects, scholarships and more. Most recently, the Aid Society celebrated its 100 years of service and was lauded by former First Lady Barbara Bush who cited their leadership in community service as well as their role as health care advocate.

Westmoreland Hospital Auxiliary

From the time of its establishment in 1896 to its consolidation with the Hospital Aid Society in 1930 to the present, the Westmoreland Hospital Auxiliary has lent its time and talents to such fund-raising projects as the Dollhouse and Miniature Show, book, jewelry and fudge sales, the Christmas Auction and more, all to benefit Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital. The Auxiliary's largest undertaking, The Hospitality Shop, along with other fund-raising efforts, has assisted the hospital in the purchase of new equipment and the realization of renovation projects.

The Auxiliary also awards annual scholarships to area students pursuing medical and health-related studies and "Books for Babies," one of the Auxiliary's newest programs, serves to educate parents on the benefits of reading and its effects on the emotional and cognitive development of children while promoting literacy. To date, cumulative donations have reached over $2.5 million.
